Well, had to write something on 12/12/12. I haven’t been very dedicated to my journal this year or any type of blogging. I do reflect mentally a lot of the time, however. I guess part of the reason I have done less writing is that things are good. Guess I should always also reflect in writing on the good as it is a reflection of gratitude. This has really been a great year. The extended family is doing well and personally I have done better about meeting goals this year that most any. My running mileage is higher that any year in recent history if ever. I think this is an accomplishment at 53. I have been more consistent this year. Probably would have had much higher mileage last year than this had I not had a femur stress fracture, which pretty much limited my running to half a year. I am however this year doing enough to stay in excellent shape and keep my head “right”. I must say that I am extremely proud of both my son and daughter. Rad has really done well participating in spo...
Well, I had a good day. Ate well and had a good run and workout at the Y. Life is good

Four miles plus today at about a 9:40 pace. Cooler and breezy at Long Hunter by the lake this afternoon, made for a great run. The deer there are so tame I just run right by them feeding and they do not move. Life is good. If there were anything I would like to change I just can't imagine what it would be.

Kicking Again

Well, after being down for the summer and fall with a Femoral Stress Fracture, I am back up and kicking again. Have my eye on a Half in the fall and training now to build a good base prior to starting training for the half. Ran 10K training yesterday in under 2 hours around a 9:35 or so pace. My leg feels pretty decent. I am going to be really cautious for the next couple of months concentrating on a good base, then start a training program just for the Half. The way it appears now, the start of the training program will be less stressful and a drop possibly than what I will be doing just prior. Have dropped about 5lbs or so from my "Winter" weight and would like to drop at least 8 more prior to the Half. I want to keep a weight around 145-147, but under 150 regardless. This will allow me a better chance of running and keeping injure free.

Okay Already

Okayyy already. I am done, done, done, and starting, starting starting. Not everyone needs to know what that means, but it absolutely MUST mean something to me. Today, see above, I am going to drop the BS and start living. I can't merely exist by the computer waiting for the next shoe to drop. Though I don't quite really do this, it sometimes appears as such. I am going to begin doing and not thinking of what I am going to do. Such a long time with progress in such a circular path and moving forward at a progressive rate that is not totally fulfilling. Mind, Body and Spirit (Of the Universe and Within) will be the hallmarks of my life. The stress fracture in my Femur has had me down for a while, but I am far from out. I will not do everything I can to recover from it and my sanity in general. Didn't post about my Half-Marathon in April, but it was a great first attempt on a hilly Nashville course in 2:05:15. The frustrating part is the resulting stress fracture that resulte...

Good Week Running

Well, ran 7.2 at about a 10:20 pace. First time in a long time I had that long a run and finished with almost 18 miles for the week. Planning on running the Music City Half Marathon. I will keep this up and make sure that the Half is a "fun" run and not a run into the ground. Still have about 2.5 months, so I should be in good shape for it.

Thinking

First Day or 2011

Well, happy new year. I am beginning the new year slowly with the only primary “resolve” is to increase my fitness and nutrition and find peace. Now these may not seem measurable goals, though I have specifics in mind to which I WILL adhere. For one thing I will spend more time in retrospection and study as opposed to mindless internet activities. Now this also is part of my resolve. I guess to put it shortly 2011 is the year of TOTFIT and the beginning of the lifestyle. My goal for the day is to get a three mile run in and to get some things done around the house. I have already begun by working some in the “man cave” and will continue as the day goes on. Tomorrows goal will be church for one. I will be the best husband, father, son, relative and friend also that I can be. I will work on keeping anxieties to a minimum. Well, ran 4 miles on a cloudy day. It was a nice relaxing first day of the year. The intent of the run was for the Greenway which was flooded. I instead ran from the Gr...

Happy New Year

I start the new year with no "major" goals. I would just like to continue on the path on which I have chosen and improve generally. I guess in most aspects, "Life is Good". Hopefully, I will begin this year to put my thoughts more in writing, just not sure if here or elsewhere.. To all, a Happy New Year around the globe..

New Year

Guess everyone makes some sort of fitness resolution in the New Year. I ran 400 miles last year, I know not much by the standards of most "runners", but it was over a plateau I had since an infected knee surgery. I am looking forward to adding at least 100 miles to that and dropping about 15lbs. "boog si elif"

Go With Flow

Ok, day one down of eating better. I also got in a 3 mile run. So far so good. Now while we are at it lets work on attitude. I really love my job, but need to be more concerned about myself as opposed to others and how they do their jobs. I don't really know what I can do to get better, but once again this is something else that I think centers on "awareness". I will begin a practice of awareness and keep my thoughts and emotions in check.

Mindfullness- Eating

Today I will begin a concerted effort at mindful eating. I haven't been nearly the best lately and I notice the pounds creeping up. I know also that my obsession with this can have just the opposite effect with and anxiety and increased instead of decreased intake. So, mindful eating is my plan of attack. This week I will run Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. I will run at a minimum of four days a week till the first of the year when I will then run five. Life is too short to barely survive. I am going to thrive and spread good cheer around me.

Gotta, Gotta, Gotta

Well, I have been doing better this year than in a long time with my running mileage, but it is now waneing. In addition I am eating and gaining. I will starting tomorrow get a regular schedule down once again and drop about five pounds by the first of the year and then really kick ass and drop about 10 more.

So Large, Yet So Small

I find it amazing so many in this country believe that their overconsumption here has little or no effect on the planet or others. Worse yet are those that just don't care. While our lives may be relatively short, our legacy will live on. Will we leave a legacy of being pigs and wasting resources needed for the future. Will our legacy be finally the generation that caught hold of the idea of preservation and conservation. Most certainly our economy is not based on conservation, but rather overconsumption. Maybe, just maybe it is time for us to wake up.

Two Week Tour Starts Tomorrow

Tomorrow we start a two week vacation tour. We will start out in Williamsburg, VA. We will do the early American colonial tour and one day 50 mile round trip from Colonial Williamsburg to Jamestown. Then it is over to Chesapeake Bay for about four days of bicycling and then to Myrtle Beach for a week. It will be Radonr's (6yo son) birthday while we are in Myrtle Beach and he gets his choice of activities for the day. I plan to run at least three days during this vacation along with our bicycling activities. I will post more about the trip as it progresses and maybe post some pictures.

Burger King and Hummer What a Bummer

Wow, Burger King is giving away a Hummer H2 in its new Indiana Jones giveaway. Well, this is enough to make me never buy from BK again. McDonald's is giving Hummers away in its Happy Meals. I will never buy from them either. A poor choice promoting another poor choice. It is no wonder some people shake their heads at our American attitudes. I am sure no one reads my tripe, but if you do, please boycott these two establishments. There are exponentially better food choices anyway, both for health and the environment.

Been Brochured

Image
Just looked at a brochure for this years ride of a bicycle ride we did last year and saw our family picture inside. Almost threw it away as we would be unable to attend this year due to conflicts, but instead looked inside. Wow, hate to miss now, we would have been the family riding a tandem with trail-a-bike that was in the brochure. Maybe we can do it next year it was a fantastic ride. Here is a link if interested. It is the Greene Trails Classic in Xenia, OH. We are the three at the bottom.

Blast in Key West

Well, had a blast in Key West. Now we are slowly moving northward again heading home to the "real" world. I am continuously firming up resolve in issues I did not make as much progress in during last year. Have been setting here answering some work emails, though trying not to get involved too much. Monday will come soon enought. I will look to add a couple of Key's pictures to the blog later.

Kickin in Key West

Well, hanging at the KOA on Sugarloaf Key, tent camping. Just got here today and took a family 11 mile bike ride to get dinner for a warm up. My thoughts are just mainly to create and maintain the totfit attitude through the New Year. Had a good 2007, though I am a bit heavier than I want to be. The old knees would love to run at a lighter weight and that is part of the plan. Though I haven't done much strength training per se in the past few years due to physical work, my current IT position is not very taxing and I plan to include some weight training a couple of days a week. Right now I am setting with wife and laptop by the pool listening to my six yearl old tell the older kids the "rules" for the pool games. He is really a loud little guy. Hope noone takes a notion to squash him. I will continue moving forward and enjoying 2008. Oh, in addition I am tapering and dropping Lexapro which I have taken for about a year and a half to help with anxiety. Instead I am going t...

12-5-07 Kick Off

Well, haven't been able to get cranked up due to a bad could over the past couple of weeks. I am going to begin tomorrow and move, move, move. I have to get out of this funk. Though generally I feel pretty good, I will begin moving much more run at least three days a week until the new year.
